Mandeep Chhabra, Managing Member of Cochran, Cochran and Chhabra, Outlines New Data on the Dangers of Distracted Driving

Mandeep Chhabra, Managing Member of Cochran, Cochran and Chhabra, Outlines New Data on the Dangers of Distracted Driving

(PRWEB) February 17, 2012

Despite nationwide education and prevention efforts, new data shows that texting and driving incidents are not decreasing. Many young motorists are aware of the dangers of texting and driving but do it anyway, increasing their risk of being involved in a car accident. Even with nationwide attention, there are still a large number of distracted drivers on our roadways.

“By now, many of us are familiar with the dangers of distracted driving. We may think we are safe drivers or can multitask while behind the wheel, but taking our eyes off the road even for a split second can have life-long consequences,” Mandeep Chhabra said. Chhabra is the managing member of Cochran, Cochran and Chhabra, LLC, whose practice areas include criminal defense, DUI/DWI law, traffic law, administrative law and plaintiff’s personal injury/civil litigation.

“The number of serious or fatal car accidents caused by distracted drivers is staggering,” he added.

A recent survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that 18 percent of participating drivers had sent either a text or email while they were driving. The numbers were especially high for younger drivers, as half of those motorists surveyed in the 21 to 24 age group had texted or emailed while behind the wheel.

NHTSA statistics show that there were over 3,000 fatalities attributed to distracted driving in 2010. Law enforcement agencies have implemented new procedures to determine if distracted driving was involved in each car collision moving forward. So these number could increase, which may lead to a renewed emphasis on the laws currently in place.

Texting and Driving Statistics

Liberty Mutual, an insurance company, and Students Against Destructive Decisions surveyed students to find out more about this dangerous trend. Some of their findings include:

-More than 50 percent of high school students text while driving

-Fewer teens are sending text messages to peers

-More teens are sending text messages to parents and guardians

A State Farm survey also found that many parents use cellphones and other telecommunication devices while teaching their children to drive.

The Dangers of Distracted Driving

An NHTSA report on distracted driving gives some serious and sobering results:

-Drivers using handheld devices are four times as likely to get into a crash serious enough to injure themselves.

-20 percent of injury-crash reports in 2009 were related to distracted driving.

-Distracted driving is the number one killer of teens.

The Role of Parents in Driving Safety

“Parents play a significant role in preventing distracted driving, particularly when it comes to young drivers,” Chhabra said. “When parents teach children that it is acceptable to use mobile devices and drive, the children are more likely to follow that example.”

“If you, your child or another loved one was injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver, contact an attorney with experience in car accident cases,” he added. “The costs of an accident caused by a distracted driver can be staggering.”

Mr. Chhabra is a Board Member of the Maryland Association for Justice and a member of the American Association for Justice; the Anne Arundel Bar Association; the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association; the National Criminal Defense Attorney Association; and the South Asian Bar Association.

His lectures and writings include, “Nuts & Bolts: The DUI/DWI Case,” Trial Reporter – Journal of the Maryland Association for Justice, Trial Lawyers Organization, 2011, which is a basic summary of issues that come up in a DUI/DWI case in the State of Maryland with trial tactics and tips.

Parcel2Go calls on firms to get over weak sales by shipping Down Under

Parcel2Go calls on firms to get over weak sales by shipping Down Under

(PRWEB UK) 17 February 2012

Businesses in the UK have been urged to make the most of the available opportunities abroad by exporting their goods to new territories. Parcel2Go, Britain’s largest online parcel delivery specialist, says companies should look to countries such as Australia and New Zealand for growth.

A tough trading environment combined with the current strength of sterling is causing problems for firms used to doing business with customers in the eurozone. However, innovative businesses have realised that consumers in some Pacific countries, who have high levels of disposable income and can benefit from favourable exchange rates, are more than happy to do business with British traders.

Parcel2Go’s marketing director Richard Mercer said businesses are increasingly finding that thanks to the internet, doing business with customers who are on the other side of the globe is no longer out of reach for even the smallest firms.

Richard said: “One of the main perceived obstacles to trading with Australia and other major countries in the Pacific region is the distances involved. Companies, especially small business, that are not used to exporting their goods are understandably put off by the idea of dealing with customers many thousands of miles away.

“This is where the services of an international courier company come into play, linking businesses in the UK with customers on the other side of the world. World-renowned courier companies with low postal rates make the process of shipping abroad simple, and we’d urge firms of all sizes to seize the opportunities available overseas and start doing business with the world.”

Parcel2Go has been involved with helping businesses and individuals send consignments to UK and international destinations for more than two decades. The company regularly deals with customers who need to packages shipped to Australia and New Zealand within a matter of days, and has the experience to be able to deliver time and time again.

About Parcel2Go:

Parcel2Go Ltd has been helping its customers with sending parcels abroad for the past 21 years. Based in Bolton, the company operates a cost-effective collection and delivery service using couriers such as Parcelforce and Fedex that offer affordable international postage services throughout Britain, Europe, and countries across the world.

Kreider Farms Earns Influential Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification

Kreider Farms Earns Influential Safe Quality Food (SQF) Certification

Manheim, PA (Vocus) June 13, 2009

Kreider Farms announces that it is one of the first egg producers in the United States to earn the Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification, the food industry’s newly adopted food processing safety standard. Owned and controlled by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) , the rigorous SQF certification is a globally recognized food safety and quality certification program. FMI has specified SQF as the universal standard for food processing quality and safety. To achieve its Level 2 certification, Kreider Farms implemented time and cost-intensive upgrades to its processes, including an extensive third-party audit, employee food safety training, and investment in company uniforms for its processing employees.

“We are very proud to be one of the first SQF-certified egg farms in the country and the first east of the Mississippi,” said Ron Kreider, president and CEO, and the third-generation family leader of Kreider Farms. “The certification took about a year and our team worked very hard to make this happen. SQF reinforces our dedication to product quality and food safety.”

Developed over the last decade, SQF has already been implemented by over 5000 companies in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and South America. The certification provides independent and external validation that a product, process or service meets specific standards and enables a supplier to assure that a food has been produced, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards. With SQF as the industry’s new benchmark, U.S. food suppliers are taking the lengthily steps necessary to earn and maintain SQF certification.

As one of the largest producers of eggs in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as a prominent supplier of farm fresh milk and ice cream, Kreider Farms proceeded with SQF certification early on, based on demand from area retailers and foodservice distributors. Over a period of about one year, time and cost-intensive steps were taken to upgrade the farms’ already high food safety levels. Employees were outfitted with uniforms, creating an extra, visual layer of protection at multiple Kreider Farms’ locations in eastern Pennsylvania. Employees are participating in special educational sessions to stay well-informed on food safety procedures. Monthly meetings are now held to keep the team updated on plant and processing standards.

Winner of the 2008 Environmental Excellence Award, Kreider Farms is dedicated to sustainable farming as well as food quality and safety. High quality and food safety standards are not new at Kreider Farms, however. Before SQF, Kreider Farms was one of the first egg companies in Pennsylvania to embrace the Pennsylvania Egg Quality Assurance Program (PEQAP) which has since become a model for egg producers around the country.

“In the end, food safety and environmental stewardship are both fundamental to being a truly first class farming operation.” said Ron Kreider.

For more information about Kreider Farms, please visit http://www.kreiderfarms.com. For more information on SQF certification, please visit http://www.sqfi.com.

Organic Cotton Fabric Leaders Harmony Art and Organic Cotton Plus Get Certified to Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

Organic Cotton Fabric Leaders Harmony Art and Organic Cotton Plus Get Certified to Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

Organic cotton fabric from Harmony Art

Ridgefield, CT (PRWEB) February 08, 2012

Apparel and interior designers, home sewers, and product manufacturers looking for organic fabrics processed without harmful finishing agents need look no further! Popular fabric designer Harmony Art, based in Gualala, CA, and online fabric retailer Organic Cotton Plus, based in Ridgefield, CT, have become certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard(GOTS). GOTS certification requires the use of organic fiber while prohibiting the use of toxic finishing agents, such as formaldehyde, and child labor. Organic Cotton Plus fabrics are available online at http://www.OrganicCottonPlus.com. Harmony Art fabrics are available from Organic Cotton Plus and several other retailers (see “About Harmony Art” below).

Organic Cotton Plus is the oldest organic fabric business in the U.S., opening in 1991. In 2010, it was acquired by Fox-Rich Textiles, Harmony Art’s fabric supplier. In 2005, Harmony Art changed its focus to designing only for organically grown cotton, adding color and design to what had been mostly white and natural color fabrics. Harmony Art is the U.S.’s first solely organic fabric designer to get certified to GOTS. The two companies sell to hundreds of companies in North America and overseas.

“We have sourced and designed high-quality, attractive GOTS-certified fabric since it became available in 2007,” says Harmony Susalla, Harmony Art owner/designer. “Now that we’re certified, we have paved the way for our end-product manufacturers to become GOTS certified and complete the supply chain – providing consumers with a field-to-fashion organic product! When it comes to fiber, we are where the organic food movement was more than a decade ago.”

“We are proud to have raised the bar as to what is possible in the textile world,” said Linda Hayes, Organic Cotton Plus manager, who warehouses the fabrics in Starr, SC. “Consumers will get the same high quality fabric and colorful designs they expect and enjoy,” she continued, “but now they have the reassurance of having third-party, independent certification proving the fabrics are certified organic from field to fabric as well. What is also exciting is that the interest in GOTS-certified fabrics has increased so much, we plan to increase the breadth of our organic fabric offerings 50 percent in 2012!”

The companies are two of the first to get certified to the voluntary standard in North America (by independent certifier OneCert). By doing so, they have dramatically increased the strength of the GOTS supply chain in the region. When manufacturers of finished products using the fabrics get certified, the chain will be complete, and consumers will be able to view reference to GOTS on promotional materials.

The two are also some of the first U.S. companies to get certified to GOTS since the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), in May, 2011, announced new textile labeling guidelines addressing which textiles may be considered “organic,”— similar to those that are in place for organic food. Finished products must be certified either to GOTS or the USDA standard to be able to carry the claim they are “organic” (http://www.organicnewsroom.com/2011/06/usda_oks_organic_textile_label.html). As the USDA regulations focus primarily on agricultural production and inputs and do not include processing or manufacturing standards for most textile products, GOTS-certified products may be sold as “organic” in the U.S.

According to the GOTS International Working Group, approximately 1,500 companies, totaling 2,754 facilities in 54 countries around the world, were certified to the organic apparel and textile standard as of the end of 2010. New figures for 2011 will be available soon. In addition, according to a 2011 report by Textile Exchange, the global organic textiles industry grew 20 percent to an estimated $ 5.16 billion in 2010 and is projected to increase another 20 percent in 2011, resulting in an estimated $ 6.2 billion market in 2011 and $ 7.4 billion market in 2012.

About Harmony Art – http://www.HarmonyArt.com: Founded by husband and wife team David “Sus” and Harmony Susalla in 1998, Harmony Art has created designs and products for every retail level from Target and Walmart to Nordstrom and Williams-Sonoma and many points in between. Personal conviction and a desire to show the world that organic fabrics can be beautiful led Harmony, in 2005, to become the first textile company to offer only printed organic cotton fabrics and make them available by the yard for businesses and home sewers alike. Harmony Art’s stock fabrics feature organic cotton, wide-width, woven sateens and twills as well as knits. Their newest fabric and design, “Graceland in Black & White,” is being released this week. This bold design on white organic muslin pays homage to the poppy—both delicate and strong. “Graceland” and other designs are available in wholesale quantities from Harmony Art or in smaller yardage through select retailers: http://www.harmonyart.com/retailers.html.

About Organic Cotton Plus – http://www.OrganicCottonPlus.com: Organic Cotton Plus, the oldest organic knit- and woven-fabric retailer in the U.S., has launched an expanded website and plans to broaden its product line by 50 percent in 2012, to include binding/webbing, a wider selection of knits (including Sherpa), and more eco-friendly textile filling products (such as buckwheat hulls). The website will have more photos of the fabrics and enable customers to post reviews as well as photos of the products they have made with the fabrics. It will also have an expanded check-out capacity and a “deal of the month.” Organic Cotton Plus’s minimum is as small as one yard and as many as thousands.

Reason why JC Uni-tec are toping the restaurant equipment market

JC Uni-tec Company was begun during the early nineties and henceforth there has been a series of success under this particular production company. This is due to the fact that since its inoculation, the company has worked under the skillful and experienced expertise of hands of engineering like the production of Taiji and the hand crafted sushi products. The talent and professionalism has been built for decades and this is basically what makes them the best in the American market.

JC Uni-tec, Inc was initially operational only in Japan since this is where company was founded and grew for the first instances under operation. When it comes to its products, quality, durability, efficiency and sanitation top the list as according to the expectation of consumers. This has already been proven by the history it has made under its name and the ongoing achievements in various markets and particularly the United States.

Before JC Uni-tec could be able to sell its products to the American market at the point where expansion was inevitable, there were certain challenges faced. These minor challenges are what basically made it the best producer and of the best restaurant equipment in the United States. The issue that came about as the basic challenge was that of sanitation. Since JC Uni-tec products are from Japan and the sanitation requirements under the United States market are higher than those of Japan, changes had to be made to suit the requirements of this particular market.

Since JC Uni-tec were already renowned top-notched restaurant products, only a few changes had to be made so as to fit into the market and meet the requirements put forth by the American stipulation. One the minor changes had been made, the products were basically good to go and basically they sold in a manner that proved that they were worth the high class restaurants. This fact can by shown by how fast the products were absorbed into the market within a noticeable short period of time.

Whether the products required from JC Uni-tec are for the purposes of opening a new restaurant of maybe renovation and improving the class, JC Uni-tec restaurant products suit all these requirements perfectly. Even in instances where retailers would require additional high class products for sale in their stores, the aspect of the JC Uni-tec always makes them the best choice.

Anaerobic Digestion Says: Waste to Energy and Biomass set to be the recipients of huge capital injections up to 2020

Anaerobic Digestion Says: Waste to Energy and Biomass set to be the recipients of huge capital injections up to 2020

London, UK (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

Cascadia Capital, specialist investment bankers, corroborate this view – They believe that technologies capable of converting municipal solid waste to energy are ready for commercialization and will replace incinerators and landfills as the primary option for municipal solid waste. So the opportunity for technologies such as AD and gasification are clear. But the challenge of providing adequate and evidenced financials within a reliable supply chain remains difficult, with utility co-operation on off-take agreements providing one of the largest stumbling blocks.

But regardless of the sizeable challenges there is no doubt that the will for AD is strong. Meredith Sorensen of Harvest Power is unwavering in her support, saying that: “While the three groups that anaerobic digestion transects – waste, energy, and agriculture – have very distinct flavors, they share a common trait: they all care about the greater good. Increasingly we will see a cross-pollination of ideas and conversations as our society strives to put its organic materials to their highest and best use”.

The place where these three core areas of Waste, energy and agriculture are set to meet is San Francisco at this year’s Anaerobic Digestion Conference and Expo, which is set to be held on May 16-17. This event is purpose built to instruct waste management professionals use Municipal Solid Waste to build, expand and diversify a profitable

Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Business.

Coming together in San Francisco are:

Paul Relis of CR&R and Daniel Hagen of Waste Management Inc., who will be addressing the waste management industry perspective and explaining why AD can work and why their companies are making significant investments in this area.

Paul Sellew of Harvest Power and Geoff Rathbone of Progressive Waste., who will be talking about the project economics and the long term feedstock agreements that can make AD a profitable business proposition.

Joining them are Michael Butler of Cascadia Capital and Scott Olson of Black & Veatch who will talk about financing and then building an efficient facility at the lowest cost.

The Event Director, Olive Saunders, has said of this event, “The purpose here is getting projects working – moving them from development to operation and doing so with solid financials. The guys that are presenting in San Francisco are the best placed people in the USA to do just that”.

To find out more about the Anaerobic Digestion Conference and Expo (San Francisco, May 16-17), go online and download the event brochure or call Oliver Saunders on 1800 814 3459 ext 7185

Additionally, the company has extensive experience in construction and repair of molds for compression and investment castings applications, as well as providing complementary services for associated tools, dies and fixtures. The purchase will strengthen PTI’s position as a ‘one-stop shop’ contract manufacturing solutions provider. The company has five CAD/CAM work stations, four late-model computer numerical control (CNC) machining centers, seven CNC milling machines, two lathe machines, two wire and three “sinker” electric discharge machines (EDM), six grinders and QC inspection equipment to guarantee the quality of the value-added services they supply.

“The acquisition of Polmold complements our existing product offering and continues our strategic plan to offer streamlined contract manufacturing services to our customers in the USA and internationally,” said PTI president Neal Goldenberg. “Our vertical integration of this critical technology into our operation will truly make us a complete solutions provider for any engineered injection molding application.”

Melvyn Goldenberg, PTI founder and Neal’s father added, “We have been pleased to see a strong resurgence of tooling work being done here in the United States. Much of this is due to the realization that the cost-savings from work done overseas in places such as China didn’t pan out the way people had hoped it would when variables such as lost time and additional costs of rework were not a part of the original equation. Further, given the size of some of the tooling, transportation and import fees, outsourcing has become very cost prohibitive.”

Wallington-based, Polmold was founded by Henry Marzec in the 1980s. Polmold employs six highly-skilled workers whose combined 80+ years of experience in injection molding tool design and construction and use of their state-of-the art equipment will ensure the tools built will meet or exceed the stringent requirements of PTI’s customer base. With this acquisition, PTI will employ a total of 77 manufacturing professionals at its two facilities. Mr. Marzec will assume the role of Polmold Tool Inc general manager.

“We are very pleased to join our forces with PTI and the Goldenberg’s. We still intend to support our existing clients with the same level of superior quality, workmanship and service for which they have come to rely on us however, now can also offer a new value-proposition,” says Marzec. “Through utilization of PTI’s injection molding expertise, we can prototype and troubleshoot these tools prior to being shipped to the client. This will significantly reduce the debugging time associated with new tool manufacturing and increase our client’s speed-to-market.”
